Kyoto Peace Issues Discussion Group

…After the Second World War, when the international situation was once again tense, UNESCO social scientists issued a call for peace in July 1948. On December 12 of that year, more than 50 people including Abe Yoshinari, Nishina Yoshio, and Ouchi Hyoe gathered at the Meiji Memorial Hall in Aoyama, Tokyo, and issued the “Statement of Japanese Scientists on War and Peace.” The signatory scholars organized the Tokyo Peace Problem Discussion Group and the Kyoto Peace Problem Discussion Group in the east and west of Japan in early 1949. On December 21 of that year, they held a general meeting at the Industrial Club in Marunouchi, Tokyo, and invited Yokota Kisaburo and Irie Keishiro to hold a discussion. They compiled a “Statement on the Peace Problem,” which was published on January 15, 1950, calling for the realization of a complete peace. After further research and discussion, they published “On Peace Again” in September of the same year after the outbreak of the Korean War. …

…第2次世界大戦後，再び国際情勢が緊迫してきた1948年7月に発表されたユネスコの社会科学者による平和の訴えに示唆を受け，同年12月12日に東京青山の明治記念館に安倍能成，仁科芳雄，大内兵衛ら50余名が集い，〈戦争と平和に関する日本の科学者の声明〉を出したが，これに署名した学者が，49年初頭に東西でそれぞれ東京平和問題談話会，京都平和問題談話会を組織し，同年12月21日，東京丸の内の工業俱楽部で総会を開き，横田喜三郎，入江啓四郎を招いて討議し，〈講和問題についての声明〉をまとめ，50年1月15日付で発表，全面講和の実現を要望した。その後，研究と討論を重ね，朝鮮戦争勃発後，同年9月に〈三たび平和について〉を発表した。…
