Kiyoshige Kasai

Date of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the early Kamakura period. Commonly known as Kasai Saburo. Son of Toshima Kiyomoto of the Chichibu clan. Based in Kasai-sho, Shimousa. He did not join Minamoto no Yoritomo's uprising in August 1180 (Jisho 4), but soon surrendered and accompanied Minamoto no Noriyori in the pursuit of the Taira clan. In 1189 (Bun'ei 5), he was appointed Gokeninbugyo (Magistrate of the vassals of the Mutsu Province) for his contributions in the pursuit of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, and was bestowed the Isawa, Iwai, and Oshika counties of Mutsu Province. After that, he played an active role as the Sobugyo (Magistrate of Oshu) together with Izawa Iekage. After the death of Minamoto no Yoritomo, he led the charge in the pursuit of Hatakeyama Shigetada, fought in the Wada Yoshimori Rebellion, and participated in the war council as a key figure on the Shogunate side during the Jokyu Rebellion in 1221 (Jokyu 3), but he remained in Kamakura. His residence was in Kasaigaya, Kamakura.

生没年不詳。鎌倉前期の武将。通称葛西三郎。秩父(ちちぶ)氏一族豊嶋清元(としまきよもと)の子。下総(しもうさ)葛西庄(しょう)を本拠とした。1180年（治承4）8月の源頼朝(よりとも)挙兵にはくみしなかったが、まもなく帰服し、平家追討には源範頼(のりより)に従った。89年（文治5）奥州藤原氏追討に功があり、陸奥(むつ)国御家人奉行(ごけにんぶぎょう)に任じられ、陸奥国胆沢(いさわ)、磐井(いわい)、牡鹿(おしか)郡などを拝領した。以後、伊沢家景(いざわいえかげ)とともに奥州総奉行として活躍した。源頼朝死後、畠山重忠(はたけやましげただ)追討に先陣となり、和田義盛(わだよしもり)の乱にも出陣、1221年（承久3）承久(じょうきゅう)の乱に幕府方の重鎮として軍議に参加したが、鎌倉にとどまった。館は鎌倉葛西ヶ谷にあった。
