A folk art form handed down in Mannou Town, Nakatado District, Kagawa Prefecture. A dance for praying for rain, this is an elegant dance reminiscent of a Buddhist chant. It is said that Kobo Daishi once taught this dance to a village girl named "Aya" when he visited the village during a year of drought. In 1976, it was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Plus Information |
