After the Kan'ei era (1624-44), as new rice fields in the surrounding area were developed, it flourished as a distribution center for goods, but after the Meiji era, shipping on the Iwaki River declined, and it lost its vitality in contrast to the prosperity of Goshogawara, where the Kitatsugaru County Office was located.
