Born in 1897. Participated in the launch of the New People's Theatre Company (Second New National Theatre Company) in 1918. In the Showa era, formed the Kanai Shuichi Theatre Company. Performed at the Asakusa Showaza Theatre, as well as at theatres such as Shinkyogoku in Kyoto and Dotonbori in Osaka, and gained popularity as a swordplay star. Died on December 21, 1963. Age 66.
