The Hidden Husband Theory - Senpro

Wang Fu (date of birth and death unknown), a Confucian scholar from the late Eastern Han Dynasty in China, wrote this book in 10 volumes and 36 chapters. Wang Fu was from Linjing, Anding County (Gansu Province). Born as the son of a despised concubine, this background meant that he was not familiar with the secular world and never held any government position. He had close ties with scholars Ma Rong and Zhang Heng. Angered by the ugliness of the secular and political world, he retired to write this book. Not wanting to be famous, he titled the book "Discourse on the Hidden Man." The contents of the book are mainly about governance, and he develops criticism of the secular political world for failing to see into the roots of chaos and misfortune. Based on Mencius's idea that the foundation of a nation is the people, the idea of ​​the Way of Heaven and the Mandate of Heaven inherited and developed the theories of Taoism and Xunzi. The Book of the Later Han includes biographies of Wang Chong, Wang Fu, and Zhong Changtong in Chapter 39. It seems that the authors recognized a common philosophy among the three.

中国、後漢(ごかん)末の儒者王符（生没年不詳）の著書。10巻36篇(へん)。王符は安定郡臨涇(りんけい)（甘粛(かんしゅく)省）の人。卑しめられる妾腹(しょうふく)の子として生まれ、この出生とも絡み、世俗になじまず、終生、仕官することはなかった。学者馬融(ばゆう)、張衡(ちょうこう)らと往来した。世俗、政界の醜悪なさまに憤り、隠居して書を著した。名を顕彰することをいとい、書名を「潜夫論」とした。その内容は主として治政にかかわるもので、治乱、禍福の本源を洞察できぬ世俗政界に批判を展開した。国の基本は民であるという孟子(もうし)の民本思想を踏まえて、天道・天命思想は道家(どうか)や荀子(じゅんし)の学説を継承発展させている。『後漢書(ごかんじょ)』は、王充(おうじゅう)、王符、仲長統(ちゅうちょうとう)を列伝第39にまとめている。三者に共通する思想を認めていたのであろう。
