Wang Fu (date of birth and death unknown), a Confucian scholar from the late Eastern Han Dynasty in China, wrote this book in 10 volumes and 36 chapters. Wang Fu was from Linjing, Anding County (Gansu Province). Born as the son of a despised concubine, this background meant that he was not familiar with the secular world and never held any government position. He had close ties with scholars Ma Rong and Zhang Heng. Angered by the ugliness of the secular and political world, he retired to write this book. Not wanting to be famous, he titled the book "Discourse on the Hidden Man." The contents of the book are mainly about governance, and he develops criticism of the secular political world for failing to see into the roots of chaos and misfortune. Based on Mencius's idea that the foundation of a nation is the people, the idea of the Way of Heaven and the Mandate of Heaven inherited and developed the theories of Taoism and Xunzi. The Book of the Later Han includes biographies of Wang Chong, Wang Fu, and Zhong Changtong in Chapter 39. It seems that the authors recognized a common philosophy among the three.
