Amerasian Basin - Amerasian Basin

...On the Eurasian side, the continental shelf has developed to a length of over 1000 km, on which lie the islands of Svalbard, Franz Josef, Novaya Zemlya, Severnaya Zemlya, Novosibirsk, and Wrangel, and the northern half of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago is called the Queen Elizabeth Islands. The Lomonosov Mountains (discovered in 1948), which divide the Arctic Basin into the Amersian Basin and the Eurasian Basin, are 60 to 200 km wide and 1800 km long, rising about 3000 m above the seafloor (about 800 m at its shallowest point). The names of the landforms and the depth of the Arctic Basin differ between the United States and the Soviet Union.
