〘Noun〙 A cloth made by bleaching the bark of linden trees, which are grown in Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture) and elsewhere, splitting it into thin threads, and weaving it. The cloth has a rough texture and a glossy finish, and is a little reddish-black in color. It was also used as a stipend, donation, and money for recitation.
