Reticulocyte - Reticulocyte

Reticulocyte - Reticulocyte
They are also called reticulocytes. When supravital staining is performed with brilliant Cressil blue or new methylene blue, a reticulated substance that stains blue can be seen. Such red blood cells are called reticulocytes. They are the youngest of red blood cells, and lose their reticulated substance within 2 to 3 days and become mature red blood cells. An increase in the number of reticulocytes during blood loss indicates active red blood cell production. In other words, the number of reticulocytes decreases in hemolytic anemia, in which red blood cell production is enhanced, and in aplastic anemia, in which red blood cell production is reduced and increases after acute bleeding.
