Ebisu Saburo

Japanese: 夷三郎 - えびすさぶろう

(Hiruko -no-kami is said to be the third child of Izanagi- no- mikoto and Izanami-no-mikoto, hence the alternate name of "Ebisu ( I )". ※Genpei Seisuiki (before the 14th century) verse 9 "On that mountain, we celebrate the god Ebisu Saburo " [ Additional note ] The third child of Izanagi and Izanami , Hiruko, was called Saburo, and the two gods were likely confused because of the literal meaning of "Hiruko" and because both "Ebisu" and "Hiruko" are gods related to the sea.

(蛭子神(ひるこのかみ)は、伊邪那岐命(いざなぎのみこと)・伊邪那美命(いざなみのみこと)の第三子であるといわれるところから) 「えびす（恵比須）(一)」の異名。※源平盛衰記（１４Ｃ前）九「彼の岳(をか)には夷(エビス)三郎殿と申神を祝ひ奉り」[補注]イザナギ・イザナミの第三子の蛭児(ひるこ)を三郎と称し、「蛭子」の字面を介して、また「えびす」と「ひるこ」ともに海に関わる神であることから、両神が混同されたものであろう。
