Takeda Chiyosaburo
1867-1932 A bureaucrat and sports coach from the Meiji to early Showa periods.
Born on April 24, 1867. He joined the Ministry of Home Affairs and served as governor of Akita Prefecture, Aomori Prefecture, and other prefectures. He studied sports theory under Strange while studying at the Imperial University. In 1913, he became vice president of the Japan Amateur Athletic Association. In 1914, he named the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Marathon Relay between Kyoto and Tokyo "ekiden race." He passed away on May 26, 1932, at the age of 66.

慶応3年4月24日生まれ。内務省にはいり秋田県,青森県などの知事を歴任。帝国大学在学中にストレンジにスポーツ論をまなぶ。大正2年大日本体育協会副会長となる。6年京都-東京間の東海道五十三次マラソンリレーを「駅伝競走」と名づけた。昭和7年5月26日死去。66歳。
