Pottery Club

Japanese:
Pottery Club
A professional group in the pre-Taika period who engaged in the production of Sue ware (pottery). The origins of Sue ware are said to be in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. They were also called the Tobu (ceramics) group. The 3rd year of the reign of Emperor Suinin in the Nihon Shoki states that the potters of Kagamidani in Omi Province were servants of the Silla prince Amenohiboko, and the 7th year of the reign of Emperor Yuryaku mentions the name of Imaki no Aya no Suetsukuri Kouki among the artisans who were made to pay tribute from Baekje. The former is thought to indicate the arrival of Silla-based and the latter Baekje-based pottery craftsmen. The production of Sue ware by these immigrant artisans began in the early 5th century in Sue-mura, Chinu Prefecture, in the hilly area south of Osaka, but from the second half of the 5th century to the 6th century, production areas expanded to other regions.
