Japanese: 古橋源六郎 - ふるはしげんろくろう
Genrokuro Furuhashi
1850‐1909 (Kaei 3‐Meiji 42)
A farm leader in the Meiji period. He was born into the seventh generation of the Furuhashi family, a powerful family of sake brewers and village headmen in Kitashitara County, Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture). He served as the head of Kitashitara County from 1878, working hard to develop local industries and promote social education, and served as the mayor of Inahashi Village from 1889 until his death, encouraging reforestation, tea production, sericulture, horse breeding, and savings. His father, Teruji, a dedicated farmer and loyalist to the emperor, had first held an agricultural conference in the prefecture, which he later organized throughout the buraku, village, and county, becoming the basis for the later Systematic Agricultural Associations. He worked to establish seedlings and agricultural training centers, was selected for important agricultural posts and promoted the agricultural group movement, and was on friendly terms with Shinagawa Yajiro and Soejima Taneomi, bringing new knowledge to his mountain village hometown.
