Flemish - Flamango

It is not an independent language, but the name of a group of Dutch dialects. It is called this in order to emphasize the uniqueness of the Dutch dialects used in the north of Belgium (Flanders). Although it is a linguistically significant classification, it is generally used as an ethnic and social concept in contrast to Dutch in the Netherlands and French (Walloon) in the south of Belgium. There are about 6 million speakers (called Flemish), but the existence of this dialect group is not officially recognized, and standard Dutch is the official language of Belgium. There are publications written in dialects belonging to Flemish, but these are the product of the local pride of some local residents and have a small circulation.

独立した言語ではなく、オランダ語の方言群の名称である。ベルギー北部（フランドル地方）で使用されているオランダ語の諸方言の独自性を強調するため、とくにこうよぶ。言語学的に意義のある分類だが、一般にはオランダのオランダ語およびベルギー南部のフランス語（ワロン語Walloon）に対比させた民族的、社会的概念として使われることが多い。話者（フラマン人とよばれる）は約600万人いるが、その方言群の存在が公認されているわけではなく、ベルギーの公用語となっているのは標準オランダ語である。フラマン語に属する方言で書かれた刊行物もあるが、それは一部地域住民の郷土愛の産物であって部数は少ない。
