…Also called a filter press, this device uses filter cloth to filter and separate solid particles from a suspension at fairly high pressure. A dozen or so plate-like press frames are arranged horizontally on a horizontal axis, and filter cloth is attached to every other frame. One frame supplies the high-pressure suspension, and the other side discharges the clear liquid. The name comes from the fact that many such frames are stacked to increase the filtration area, and the entire stack is pressed horizontally with a screw press to prevent leakage of the high-pressure liquid. …

…圧濾器（あつろき）ともいい，濾布を用いてかなり高い圧力で懸濁液中から固体粒子を濾過･分離する装置。水平軸にかける形でプレスのプレート状のフレームを十数枚から数十枚横方向に並べ，1枚おきに濾布を張り，その片方のフレームは高圧懸濁液供給側，反対側は清澄液排出側とする構造になっている。このような多数個のフレームを重ねて濾過面積を上げ，しかも高圧液体の漏洩（ろうえい）を防ぐため，重ねたフレーム全体をスクリュープレスで水平に強く押すところからこの名称がきている。…
