Texas [State] - Texas

Japanese: テキサス[州] - テキサス
Texas [State] - Texas
A state on the Gulf Coast of the United States. Abbreviated as Texas or TX. The western part is a gentle plateau, while the eastern and southern parts are lowlands. The Rio Grande River runs along the Mexican border. The climate is generally dry, with some deserts. Irrigation is well developed, and the state produces cotton, pecans, and corn. Livestock include cattle, sheep, and pigs. Texas is one of the world's leading oil-producing areas, and is the second largest producer of natural gas in the United States (Texas oil fields). Texas also produces helium, coal, rock salt, and gypsum. Texas has long been known as a state of large ranches and cowboys, but today, as symbolized by the NASA space station in Houston, industry is developing rapidly, with oil refining, petrochemicals, rubber, food processing, and aerospace manufacturing. Texas is one of the core states of the United States economically. The Spanish invaded this area, which was inhabited by Indian tribes, at the end of the 17th century. It became a Mexican territory in 1821, but since the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the number of American settlers has increased, and after conflicts with Mexicans, it gained independence as the Republic of Texas in 1836. It joined the Union in 1845. The state capital is Austin. The largest city is Houston. 676,587 km2 . 26,956,958 people (2014).
