Dress code - Shikise

Japanese: 仕着 - しきせ
Dress code - Shikise
Also written as Shikishi or Tamegiku. In the Edo period, the shogunate provided clothing according to the season to various officials, such as doho, uhitsu, shochoyaku, and sukiyabozu, or the clothing provided by them. In some cases, some of the clothing was given as payment. Merchants and farmers also provided livery to their servants. In Edo period merchants, apprentices and young priests were hired at the age of 12 or 13, but for about 10 years after that, until they came of age and became clerks, they were not given a salary, but only livery, food, and a small allowance.
