A town in Asakuchi County in the southwest of Okayama Prefecture. The Sanyo Main Line runs through the town. Rice, dairy farming, and peach and tobacco cultivation are carried out here. The town is known for its fire-resistant Ohara-yaki braziers and charcoal grills. As a hinterland for the Mizushima industrial area, factories are moving in and the town is being developed into a residential area. The birthplace of Nishina Yoshio is open to the public. 12.23 km2 .
