Far East Region (English spelling)

Japanese: 極東地方 - きょくとうちほう（英語表記）Dal’nevostochnyi raion

One of the customary regional divisions of the Russian Federation. Refers to the region including Russia's Pacific coastal provinces and Amur Oblast. Often not included within Siberia. The former Soviet Union's Far East (Dal'nevostochnyi ekonomicheskii raion), as a regional division based on industry and economy, refers to the vast area east of Lake Baikal, including the Yakut Autonomous Republic (now the Sakha Republic) (excluding the Buryat Autonomous Republic (now a republic) and Chita Oblast).
