〘 noun 〙 A bag made of cloth with a tie fastening, with silk strings stitched vertically and horizontally to prevent fraying. From the Middle Ages, it was widely used for travel, including the night watch bag (tonoi-bukuro) which contained the night watchman's clothes and was carried by attendants. In the early modern period, it was made of silk with a top stitch and a square bottom, the opening of the bag was sewn with braided thread to make a hem , and a slightly thick braided cord was passed through it to make the tie fastening. 〘名〙 括り緒で口を締める布帛製の袋で、縦横に絹紐を刺し縫いにしてほころびを防いだもの。中古から、宿直用の衣類を入れて従者に持参させた宿直袋(とのいぶくろ)をはじめ、旅行に盛んに用いた。近世は、絹布製で上刺しを施し、四角な底を入れ、袋の口を組糸でかがって乳(ち)とし、それにやや太い組緒を通して括り緒とした。うわざし。〔雍州府志(1684)〕
