Emperor Ankan

Japanese:
Emperor Ankan

The 27th Emperor. The eldest son of Emperor Keitai. His mother was Owari no Murajime no Kohime. His given name was Magari no Oe. His posthumous name was Hirokuno Oshitake Kanahi no Mikoto. The Ankan Pre-accession Chronicles in the Nihon Shoki state that he ascended to the throne in the 25th year of Emperor Keitai's reign (531), while the Gannen Chronicles state that he ascended to the throne in the Kinoe Tora year (534), which is contradictory. On the other hand, the Shoki states that Emperor Kinmei ascended to the throne in 540, but according to the Hoo Teisetsu, he ascended to the throne in 532. Therefore, after the death of Keitai, his legitimate son Kinmei ascended to the throne, but it can also be interpreted that his illegitimate brother Ankan soon rebelled and ascended to the throne alongside him. According to the "Nihon Shoki," the imperial palace was Magari no Kanahashi no Miya (Mawarikawa-cho, Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture), and in the second year of his reign, he was buried at Furuichi no Takaya no Oka no Misasagi (Furuichi, Habikino City, Osaka Prefecture). During his reign, it is said that more than 30 Miyake (storehouses) were established throughout the country, which indicates that the Ankan period was a time of upheaval.
