Fukuromushi (Cyst) - Fukuromushi

Japanese: フクロムシ(囊虫) - フクロムシ
Fukuromushi (Cyst) - Fukuromushi
A general term for crustaceans in the family Sacculinidae of the order Rootcephaly of the subclass Cirripedia. They are pouch-shaped and attach and parasitize mainly the abdomens of decapods such as crabs. The body of a pouch is attached to the abdomen of a crab or other animal by a short stalk and is covered only with a thin mantle membrane, without any shell plates like those of barnacles or oysters. There are internal organs inside the pouch-like body, but no appendages or digestive organs, and it is filled with ovaries and testes. The nauplii larvae that hatch from the eggs swim out into the sea through a small hole in one part of the pouch.
