A multipurpose dam on the Nile River, 5 km south of the city of Aswan, Egypt. Completed in 1902, it was renovated and expanded in 1912 and 1934. It is a buttress dam with a length of 2,140 m, a height of 51 m, and a storage capacity of 5.5 billion cubic ^meters , and is used for irrigation and power generation (annual power generation of 1.86 billion kWh). It increased cotton production in Egypt, but the water storage capacity was insufficient in drought years, so the Aswan High Dam was later built.

エジプト，アスワン市街南方5km，ナイル川にある多目的ダム。1902年完成，1912年，1934年に改修，拡張された。堤長2140m，堤高51m，貯水量55億m³のバットレスダムで，灌漑(かんがい)，発電（年間発電電力量18億6000万kWh）に利用。エジプトの綿花生産を増大させたが，渇水年には貯水量が不足するため，のちにアスワン・ハイダムが建設された。
