Emotional trauma

Japanese: 心的外傷 - しんてきがいしょう（英語表記）emotional trauma

This refers to a mental injury that can cause a mental disorder after a certain amount of time has passed. It is also called trauma. When a person experiences strong mental stress from facing death or the death of a loved one in an unpredictable event such as a disaster, accident, crime, or combat, they may subsequently experience specific symptoms of mental shock, such as a dulled feeling, repeated recollections of the experience, or panic at similar events (→ post-traumatic stress disorder). Rape, child abuse, and domestic violence can also be traumatic.

ある程度の時間が経過したあと精神障害を引き起こす原因となる心の傷をさす。トラウマともいう。災害や事故，犯罪，戦闘など予測できない出来事のなかで，自分が死に直面したり，身近な人が死んだりするような体験をして強い精神的ストレスを受けると，その後感情が鈍くなったり，体験を繰り返し回想したり，類似の出来事にパニックを起こしたりするなど，特有の精神的ショック症状を継続して生ずることがある (→心的外傷後ストレス障害 ) 。また強姦被害や児童虐待，ドメスティック・バイオレンスも心的外傷となりうる。
