Puppet Chronicle

A Chinese record from the late Heian period. Also read as "Kugutsunoki." Written by Oe Masafusa. Date of origin unknown. The kakushi, a wandering entertainer who appeared in documents from the mid-Heian period, moved around while living in tents chasing water plants, and the men performed magic tricks and magic tricks while hunting, while the women performed singing and dancing to curry favor. The book lists the names of famous performers from various provinces, and records that their songs ranged from Imayo, Furukawayo, Ashigara, Saibara, Tauta, and Kamiuta, and that their beautiful voices were praised throughout the country. It is not only a valuable document for learning about the customs and entertainment of the time, but also for learning about the origins and lineage of entertainers in Japan. It is included in Volume 3 of "Asano Gunzai."

平安後期の漢文記録。「くぐつのき」とも読む。大江匡房(まさふさ)作。成立未詳。漂泊の旅芸人で平安中期から文献に登場する傀儡子は、水草を追って天幕生活をしながら移動し、男は狩猟しながら奇術や手品をしてみせ、女は歌舞をして媚(こび)を売ることなどを生業とした。諸国の名人の名を列挙し、彼女たちの歌が今様(いまよう)、古川様(ふるかわよう)、足柄(あしがら)、催馬楽(さいばら)、田歌、神歌など多種の地方俚謡(りよう)に及び、その美声が天下に賞賛されたことを記す。当時の風俗や芸能の一端を知るうえで貴重であるばかりでなく、わが国における芸能者の発生や系譜を知るうえでも貴重な文献である。『朝野群載』巻3に所収される。
