…A perennial grass of the grass family (illustration) commonly found in forests and fields in mountain and hilly areas. It has a short rhizome and grows in sparse clumps. The stem is erect and stiff, reaching a height of 50-150 cm, with 6-7 nodes and no branching. The leaves are generally attached to the nodes of the stem, long and slender, 30-50 cm long and 4-8 mm wide, somewhat stiff, twisted in the lower half to form the so-called underside leaves with a slightly rough texture. The panicles appear at the top of the stem in autumn, are oblong, erect, 15-40 cm long, with many short branches that rise obliquely, and many densely packed spikelets. …
