...It was modeled on the leader of a peasant revolt in 17th century Anatolia, and was formed by fusing it with the ancient tale motif of "The Revenge of the Blind Son (Köluoglu)." It is composed of narration and song, and is passed down by minstrels (ashk) who play the traditional instrument saz, and is a genre in Turkish literature known as "narrative." It has also been widely passed down across the Turkish border in Iran and Azerbaijan.

...In summer camps, dairy products were produced by milking, and large cities were often formed there. The Turkish nomads, who originated from the Oghuz tribal confederation, had oral traditions, including the heroic epic poem (the legend of Oghuz Khan), which was their founding legend, and minstrels called ashkāşık were active. They also excelled in martial arts such as horse riding, archery, and wrestling, and had a unique calendar that was suited to the realities of nomadic life.
