A river that flows south through eastern Hyogo Prefecture. It is 66 kilometers long. It originates in the Tanba Highlands, merges with the Aono River, Hatsuka River, Arima River, Hata River, and others, and flows out into Takarazuka City, then flows along the border between Amagasaki City and Nishinomiya City and empties into Osaka Bay. In the upper reaches of Sanda City, it irrigates the rice paddies that produce sake rice, known as Sanda rice, and the water of the Hatsuka River is used for the Sengari Reservoir of the Kobe City Waterworks. Downstream, it is used for irrigating rice paddies in the Muko Plain and for water in the coastal industrial area.
