Mukogawa

A river that flows south through eastern Hyogo Prefecture. It is 66 kilometers long. It originates in the Tanba Highlands, merges with the Aono River, Hatsuka River, Arima River, Hata River, and others, and flows out into Takarazuka City, then flows along the border between Amagasaki City and Nishinomiya City and empties into Osaka Bay. In the upper reaches of Sanda City, it irrigates the rice paddies that produce sake rice, known as Sanda rice, and the water of the Hatsuka River is used for the Sengari Reservoir of the Kobe City Waterworks. Downstream, it is used for irrigating rice paddies in the Muko Plain and for water in the coastal industrial area.

兵庫県東部を南流する川。延長66キロメートル。丹波高地(たんばこうち)に源を発し、青野川、羽束(はつか)川、有馬(ありま)川、八多(はた)川などを合流して宝塚市に流れ出て、さらに尼崎(あまがさき)市と西宮(にしのみや)市の境界を流れて大阪湾に注ぐ。上流の三田(さんだ)市では三田米で知られる清酒用米の水田地帯を潤し、羽束川の水は、神戸市上水道の千苅(せんがり)水源池の用水となっている。下流では武庫平野の水田灌漑(かんがい)用水、臨海工業地帯用水となっている。
