Toga [village] - Toga

Japanese: 利賀[村] - とが

A village in Higashitonami County in the southwest of Toyama Prefecture, upstream of the Shogawa River, bordering Gifu Prefecture. Population 1,161 (1995). Together with Taira Village and Kamihira Village, it has been called Gokayama. A typical isolated mountain village, it was under the control of the Kaga Domain in the early modern period. With the development of power sources and road construction in the Shogawa River system, which began at the end of the Taisho period, the movement of people and goods became active, but lifestyles changed, the number of Gassho-style houses decreased, and depopulation progressed. Forestry is being promoted, and highland vegetables and medicinal herbs are cultivated, char is farmed, wild vegetable processing is done, sewing is done, and silver vine wine and pottery are produced.

富山県南西部，庄川上流の岐阜県境にある東砺波（ひがしとなみ）郡の村。人口1161(1995)。平村，上平村とともに五箇山（ごかやま）と呼ばれてきた。典型的な隔絶山村で，近世には加賀藩の支配下におかれた。大正末から始まった庄川水系の電源開発および道路整備により，人と物の移動が盛んになったが，生活様式も変わり，合掌造の民家も減少して過疎化も進行した。林業の振興，高冷地野菜，薬草の栽培，イワナ養殖，山菜加工，縫製，マタタビ酒･陶芸品の生産が行われている。
