An aspect of verbs in ancient Greek and Sanskrit. It indicates an action or phenomenon as a single event, regardless of its aspect such as perfection, continuity, or repetition. The aorist indicative mood égrapsa of the ancient Greek gráphō (I write) simply indicates the event "I wrote" as a single event, and contrasts with the imperfect égraphon (I was writing, I was going to write, etc.). In this way, the indicative mood is usually used to indicate past events, so it is usually treated as a tense.
