…Although much about his career is unclear, he is considered one of the leading Lombard painters of his time. Along with Ambrogio Predis (1455-?) and Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio (1467-1516), he was one of the artists known as the "Leonardian School" who were significantly influenced by Leonardo da Vinci. His Leonardian works, while sweet, fall far short of the spiritual sophistication of Leonardo's works. However, he was the only one among the "Leonardian School" who gradually broke away from the control of Leonardo's style and created his own elegant style in the 1520s. …
