dissected maps

...This game was first created in the 1760s by a British map printer named J. Spilsbury. It was originally invented for geography learning, and was called "dissected maps" because the maps were torn into pieces. Early maps were made of wood and were expensive because each piece was carved out, but at the end of the 19th century, a die-cutting machine was invented, making them cheap to mass-produce, and they became popular.
