Water civet (water musk cat)

Japanese: ミズジャコウネコ(水麝香猫) - ミズジャコウネコ（英語表記）water civet

Also known as the cynogale. An aquatic mammal of the Viverridae family in the carnivora order, with a body shape similar to that of an otter or sea otter. It is found from northern Vietnam to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. It is 57-68 cm long, 13-21 cm long, and weighs 3-5 kg. It has a sturdy body, thick limbs, and a short tail. Its head is flattened like that of an otter, its nostrils have valves that close underwater, and its ears are small. Its front feet have large webbed toes. Its body is densely covered with soft, downy hair. The back of its body is marbled with brown or black and pale yellow, and its sides and underside are brown.

キノガーレともいう。水生で，カワウソあるいはラッコに似た体型をもつ食肉目ジャコウネコ科の哺乳類。ベトナム北部からマレー半島，スマトラ，ボルネオに分布。体長57～68cm，尾長13～21cm，体重3～5kg。体つきはがんじょうで，四肢が太く尾は短い。頭はカワウソに似て扁平で，鼻の孔には水中で閉じる弁があり，耳が小さい。前足の指間には大きな水かきがある。体には柔らかい綿毛が密生する。体の背面は褐色または黒色と淡黄色の霜降り状で，側面と下面は褐色。
