...A senior vassal of the shogunate in the early Edo period. Commonly known as Touemon. Hitachi no suke. Head of the Aoyama clan. From an early age he served Tokugawa Ieyasu and distinguished himself in the war against the Takeda clan. In 1580 (Tensho 8), he was made a tutor to Ieyasu's eldest son Hidetada, and became a sort of elder retainer. When he entered the Kanto region, he served as a magistrate in charge of dividing up land, and later served as both the executive officer of Edo town administration (town magistrate) and the "magistrate of Kanto" (Kanto Sobugyo).
