… Theodulf of Orléans (c. 750-c. 821) and Angilbert (c. 745-c. 814), the poets who were famous for their Easter hymns, such as "Glory, Praise, and Honor, O Redeemer Christ," were the most famous poets. Paulus Diaconus (c. 720-c. 797), the author of "History of the Lombards," also wrote poems such as "The Life of Gregory the Great" and "Hymn to John the Baptist," which became the source of the octave scale. The Alcuinian tradition produced many excellent religious poets, including Rabanus Maurus, Gottschalk, and Walahfrid Strabo (808 or 809-849), all of whom were from the Abbey of Fulda. They are known for their pious, sad, and elegant hymns. Approximately contemporary with him were the poets Sedulius Scotus (mid-9th century) and Eriugena, the latter of whom was an important figure in medieval scholarship with his many works on speculative philosophy and theology. *Some of the terminology that mentions "Walahfrid Strabo" is listed below.
