...After parts of Armenia were annexed by Russia, Western Armenian literature, carried out by Armenians remaining in Turkish territory, became independent and was active mainly in Istanbul, but due to Turkish oppression, its center shifted to Paris and Boston. Eastern Armenian literature in Russia reached its peak during the Romantic period, and even during the Soviet era, under difficult circumstances, it produced poets such as Egishe Charents (1897-1937), novelists Derenik Demirchyan (1877-1956) and Stefan Zor'yan (1890-1967).

These ethnic groups, excluding Azerbaijanis and Tatars, located in Central Asia, were subordinated to the Russian Empire in the second half of the 19th century after a long struggle, but they have an ancient literature dating back to the 8th century.
