?-1916 Arab nationalist journalist. Of Maronite Christian origin in Lebanon. In 1904 he founded the Arab Patriotic Union in Paris and Cairo. In his publications The Awakening of the Arab Nation and The Independent Arab (1907-08) the following year, he advocated that Arabs should become independent from the oppression of the Ottoman Turks and build an Arab empire. He also called for Muslims and Christians to stop their conflict and to remember their common Arab heritage in their confrontation with the Ottoman Turks.
