A village in Nakakoma County in western Yamanashi Prefecture. Population 611 (1995). Bordering Nagano Prefecture. The western part is a rugged mountainous area with a series of mountains over 3,000 meters high, including Mt. Shirane (Kitadake), the second highest peak in Japan, and the Noro River flows south. The Midai River flows east through the center of the village in the eastern part. Almost the entire area is covered by forest. With the construction of the Noro River forest road, development of the rich forest resources and tourism development of the Southern Alps National Park are progressing. 山梨県西部,中巨摩(なかこま)郡の村。人口611(1995)。長野県に隣接する。西部は日本第2の高峰白根山(北岳)をはじめ,標高3000m級の山々が連なる険しい山岳地帯で,野呂川が南流する。東部の村の中心部には御勅使(みだい)川が東流する。ほぼ全域が山林で占められている。野呂川林道の整備により,豊かな森林資源の開発と南アルプス国立公園の観光開発が進展している。また山菜やシイタケなどの栽培も行われる。
