...A species of freshwater fish in the Siluriformes family, or more broadly, a general term for bony fish in the Siluriformes order. The catfish Parasilurus asolus (illustration) is found widely throughout Japan, Taiwan, the Korean peninsula (except the east coast), and the eastern part of the Asian continent. It inhabits the muddy or sandy bottoms of lakes and marshes in plains and slow-flowing rivers, and is often found where aquatic plants grow luxuriantly on the water surface.
