...The name Araregako comes from the fact that hail often falls when they move down the river every winter, and the white hail hits their pure white bellies. The Yamanokami Trachidermus fasciatus is also a freshwater fish, and in Japan it is found only in the rivers of Fukuoka and Saga prefectures that flow into the Ariake Sea. It is said to have been named after the fact that its cheekbones, which are raised like those of a sculpin, are reminiscent of a mountain god with horns.
