Date of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the late Heian period. The younger brother of Kiyohara Mitsuyori, the head of the prisoners of war in the northern part of Dewa-Yama-Poku. Some "Kiyohara family genealogy" links him to Emperor Tenmu and Prince Toneri as the son of Hyobu Daibu Mitsukata, but the Kiyohara family, head of the prisoners of war, is recognized as originally a local ruling family in the northern part of Yama-Poku (Yokote Basin, Akita Prefecture). During the Battle of Zenkunen, he came to the aid of Mutsu no Kami and Chinjufu Shogun Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and his son Yoshiie, who were having trouble with the power of the Abe clan of Mutsu, and in 1062 (Kohei 5), he led a Kiyohara army of 10,000 and joined forces with 3,000 Minamoto troops at Tamuro-ga-oka, Kurihara County, Mutsu Province (Miyagi Prefecture). On August 16, he took Komatsusaku, then destroyed Koromogawa, Oasouno, Sehara, Toriumi, Kurosawajiri, Tsuruhagi, and Hiyodori, and on September 16, he surrounded Kuryagawa and Ubato, capturing them the next day and destroying the Abe clan. Due to his achievements, he was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade, Chinjufu Shogun the following year and was also given the territory of the Oku-roku-gun district.
