Rechsteineria (English spelling)

Japanese: レクステイネリア（英語表記）Rechsteineria

A genus of bulbous plants belonging to the family Gesneriaceae. Approximately 75 species are distributed from Brazil to Mexico, and several of these are cultivated. However, it is closely related to the genus Sinningia (Gloxinia), and in recent years it has often been combined with Sinningia. It has a flattened, spherical bulb (tuber), and upright stems with elliptical leaves arranged opposite each other. In general, the entire surface is covered with fine hairs or soft hairs. One or several flowers are produced in the leaf axils near the stem apex. The flowers are elongated, tubular, with five short lobes at the tip, and bloom sideways or downward.

イワタバコ科に属する球根植物の1属。ブラジルからメキシコにかけて約75種が分布し，そのうち数種が栽培される。しかしオオイワギリソウ属Sinningia(グロキシニア)にごく近縁で，最近はオオイワギリソウ属に合一されることも多い。扁平な球状の球根(塊茎)を有し，直立した茎に対生に楕円状の葉をつける。一般に，全面に微細な毛，または軟毛を帯びる。茎頂近くの葉腋（ようえき）に，1ないし数花をつける。花は細長い筒状で先端は短く5裂し，横または下向きに咲く。
