A general term for insects belonging to the order Hymenoptera, family Chalcididae. A large parasitic wasp within the superfamily Chalcidoidea, with a body length of 2-7 mm. Most are black or brown with white, yellow, or red markings. The thorax is large and hunchbacked with punctation. It is named after the very thick femora of the hind legs. There are about 40 species distributed in Japan. They mainly parasitize the larvae and pupae of Lepidoptera and flies. Sometimes they parasitize parasitic wasps and flies that are parasitic on Lepidoptera and flies.

膜翅目アシブトコバチ科Chalcididaeに属する昆虫の総称。コバチ上科の中では大型の寄生バチで，体長2～7mm。多くは黒色か褐色で，白色や黄色，赤色などの斑紋がある。胸部は大型でせむし状になって点刻がある。後肢の腿節が非常に太いのでこの名がある。日本には約40種が分布している。主として鱗翅目やハエ類の幼虫やさなぎに寄生する。ときには鱗翅目やハエ類に寄生している寄生バチや寄生バエに寄生することもある。
