[Died] September 22, 1891.
He was a foreigner employed by the government. He was a Prussian second lieutenant in the army and a senior prison officer employed by the Ministry of the Interior. He came to Japan in 1889, and when the first prison officer training institute in Japan was opened in January 1890, he trained prison officers as its head professor. He also inspected prisons around the country and made suggestions for prison improvements.

御雇外国人。プロシアの非職陸軍少尉兼上等司獄官で内務省雇として 1889年来日し,翌 90年1月,日本最初の監獄官練習所が開設されるや,その主任教授として,監獄官の訓育にあたった。他方,各地の監獄を巡視し,監獄改良を献策した。
