Martyrdom

...Looking at its plan structure, it has its origins in two prototypes: the centralized style and the basilica style. The former are the so-called martyria (churches commemorating martyrs or religious events) and baptistery. The martyria is a type of architecture with a circular or octagonal plan centered around the tomb of a martyr, and if we look further back to its original form, it would be the mausoleum of late antiquity.
