Japanese: 大谷休泊 - おおやきゅうはく

1521-1578 A pioneer from the Sengoku to Azuchi-Momoyama period.
Born in the first year of the Taiei era. Served Uesugi Norimasa, lord of Hirai Castle in Kozuke (Gunma Prefecture). Around the time of the Tenbun era, following the downfall of the Yamanouchi Uesugi clan, he returned to farming in Narushima Village, Oura County. He built a waterway from the Watarase River and developed fields in the area and its surrounding areas. The waterway was called the Kyūhakubori. He died on August 29, 6th year of the Tensho era. He was 58 years old. He was commonly known as Shinzaemon.

大永(たいえい)元年生まれ。上野(こうずけ)(群馬県)平井城主上杉憲政につかえる。天文(てんぶん)のころ,山内上杉氏の没落により邑楽郡(おうらぐん)成島村に帰農。渡良瀬川から水路をひいて同地とその周辺に田地をひらいた。その用水路は休泊堀とよばれた。天正(てんしょう)6年8月29日死去。58歳。通称は新左衛門。
