…The second expedition, ordered by imperial decree on January 17, 1732, was organized to study the nature and inhabitants of the Siberian interior, as well as to sail to the Americas and Japan. The expedition included Gerard Friedrich Müller (1705-83), Johann Georg Gmelin (1709-55), Steller, I. Fischer, L. de Lille from France, J. I. Lindenau from Sweden, and many Russians, including Krasheninnikov. Famous works published included Müller's History of Siberia (1750), Gmelin's Voyages in Siberia (4 volumes, 1751-52), Steller's Journal of Kamchatka (1774), and Krasheninnikov's Journal of Kamchatka (2 volumes, 1755). …
