...an airplane whose main purpose is to transport people or cargo. There are civilian transport aircraft (also called commercial aircraft) used by airlines and military transport aircraft (carriers).

Civil transport aircraft are broadly divided into passenger aircraft, which are primarily intended to transport passengers, and cargo aircraft, which are primarily intended to transport cargo. However, most are passenger aircraft, and many cargo aircraft are modified versions of aircraft designed as passenger aircraft.
