sporopollenin

Japanese: sporopollenin
sporopollenin

[Spore characteristics and dispersion]
Algal spores are released and dispersed in water, so their spore walls are not thick, but in terrestrial plants such as mosses and vascular plants, the spores are covered with a thick, multi-layered spore wall to withstand drying, and may also be wrapped in a periderm. The spore wall is made of a substance called sporopollenin. The surface of the spores of horsetail plants is wrapped with two elastic threads formed by the thickening of the spore wall, which unravel and rewind depending on the surrounding wetness or dryness, helping the spores to be released.
