A Nagauta singer. The head of the Yoshimura family was named Isaburo, and Ijuro was used as a secondary name for Isaburo up until the 5th generation. There have been eight generations to date, but the 6th and 7th generations are the most famous. The first generation (1735-1820) was a disciple of the first Isaburo, and was the former name of Yoshimura Isaburo II. The second generation (1754?-1833) was a disciple of the first Isaburo, and was the former name of Yoshimura Isaburo III. The third generation (1799-1854) was a disciple of the second Isaburo, and was later called Yoshizumi Kosaburo II. The fourth generation (1832-82) was the adopted son of Isaburo IV, and was the former name of Isaburo V. He was one of the leading singers in the early Meiji period. The fifth generation (1823-1902) was an adopted son of Isaburo III, and was the former name of the person who became Isaburo VI. [Naoko Watanabe] VI(1858-1935) A disciple of Ijuro V. His previous name was Ishirou V. He took the name Isaburō VII in 1893 (Meiji 26). In 1922 (Taisho 11), he was bestowed the stage name of Izaburō VIII, but continued to use the name Ijurō. With a dynamic style of performance, he was particularly skilled in Osatsuma pieces, and became a leading figure in the world of Nagauta. [Naoko Watanabe] 7th(1901-1973) A disciple of Ishiro VII, he was later adopted. His previous name was Ishiro IX. He took the name of Ishiro VII in 1950 (Showa 25). He had a powerful and beautiful voice, and was a leading figure in the world of Nagauta after the Second World War, specializing in pieces such as "Kanjincho" and "Nininwankyu." He served as the chairman and president of the Nagauta Association. He is a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property.
